Hi, I'm Andy. I'm a software engineer with around 15 years of experience, and I founded Chunks Microlearning in 2025. The platform specializes in narrative-driven microlearning across history, philosophy, literature, science, art, music, nature, and health — because I had a problem I couldn't find a good solution for.

Most nights before bed, I'd open Instagram or TikTok for a few minutes and somehow lose an hour — without really enjoying it or learning anything. I saw my wife doing the same thing, along with younger family members and friends who were all getting sucked into doomscrolling.

I looked for apps that could replace that habit and found a couple I liked, but they felt shallow and didn't stick. So I built my own.

Why I built Chunks

Chunks took around 6 months to build. The idea was simple: what if the time you spend scrolling could be spent learning something genuinely interesting instead? Not textbook-style education, but the kind of stories that make you say "I had no idea" — the California Gold Rush, the Harlem Hellfighters, Greek mythology, the science behind everyday things.

Each story is broken into bite-sized chapters that take about 5-10 minutes to finish. Short enough to read while waiting in line or on a commute, but substantial enough to actually learn something new. The library now includes over 200 stories across 8 categories, with new content added weekly.

How content is made

Every story in Chunks goes through a 4-step editorial process before it gets published:

  1. Topic research — I identify a subject and gather primary and secondary sources to ensure accuracy.
  2. AI-assisted drafting — I use AI as a tool to help structure and write an initial draft of the story.
  3. Manual fact-checking — Every claim is verified against reliable sources, and inaccuracies are corrected.
  4. Editorial review — The story is edited for clarity, tone, and readability before being published.

On average, each story takes 2–4 hours of human work from research to publication. The content spans history, philosophy, literature, science, art, music, nature, and health, and I'm always adding new stories based on what users are interested in.

Technical background

I'm a mobile developer by trade, with around 15 years of professional experience. Building Chunks was also a way for me to get more hands-on full-stack experience, build a real product, and experiment with AI in a practical, non-gimmicky way.

Chunks is available on both iOS and Android. The app is free to download with access to select stories, and a subscription or lifetime purchase unlocks everything.
